Cycle the Ancient City Wall

Street Food in the Muslim Quarter
The Muslim Quarter (Huimin Jie) is a sensory overload — narrow lanes packed with food stalls, steam rising from giant woks, and the aroma of spices. Must-try dishes: roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), yang rou pao mo (lamb soup with crumbled bread), biángbiáng noodles (wide hand-pulled noodles with chili oil), and grilled lamb skewers. Come hungry.
Beyond the Tourist Trail
Big Wild Goose Pagoda: A 7th-century Buddhist pagoda with a charming fountain plaza. Shaanxi History Museum: One of China's best museums — free entry (book online). Huashan Mountain: One of China's Five Sacred Mountains, famous for its terrifying plank walk. It's a day trip from Xi'an (1.5 hours by bus).

Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY) receives direct flights from most major Chinese cities and several international hubs. High-speed rail connects Xi'an to Beijing (4.5 hours), Chengdu (3 hours), and Shanghai (6 hours).
