High-Speed Rail (Recommended)

China's high-speed rail network spans 45,000+ km — the world's largest. Trains are fast, comfortable, and affordable.

  • Beijing → Shanghai: 4.5 hours (G-train, ~$80-$150)
  • Beijing → Xi'an: 4.5 hours (~$70-$120)
  • Shanghai → Hangzhou: 1 hour (~$15-$30)
  • Chengdu → Chongqing: 1.5 hours (~$25-$45)

Booking: Book via Trip.com or 12306.cn (China's official rail site). We recommend booking 2-4 weeks in advance for popular routes.

Domestic Flights

For longer distances, domestic flights save time. Major airlines: Air China, China Southern, China Eastern, Hainan Airlines. Book 2-4 weeks ahead for best prices.

Metro Systems

Beijing (27 lines), Shanghai (20 lines), Chengdu, Xi'an, Guangzhou — all have excellent metro systems. Buy a transit card or use Alipay/WeChat Pay QR code.

Taxis & Ride-Hailing

Didi is China's Uber equivalent — download the app. Taxis are cheap but drivers may not speak English. Our tours include private transport.
