The Six Major Tea Types
- Green Tea (绿茶): The most popular in China. Fresh, grassy, and delicate. Famous varieties: Longjing (Dragon Well) from Hangzhou, Biluochun from Suzhou, Maofeng from Huangshan.
- Black Tea (红茶): Known as "red tea" in Chinese. Full-bodied and malty. Famous: Keemun from Anhui, Lapsang Souchong from Fujian, Dian Hong from Yunnan.
- Oolong Tea (乌龙茶): Partially fermented — the most complex and aromatic. Famous: Tieguanyin from Fujian, Da Hong Pao from Wuyi Mountains.

- Pu-erh Tea (普洱茶): Fermented and aged — the wine of teas. Famous: Yunnan Pu-erh, which improves with age.
